Free English Salisbury

What is this ministry?  HBC partners with Providence Presbyterian and Immanuel Baptist to provide ESL classes to anyone interested in our community. Every Tuesday and Thursday, we offer 4 levels of free English classes by ministry-trained teachers. Included in the classes are short devotionals with access to Bibles in every native language.

Tuesdays from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Salisbury YMCA

Thursdays from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Providence Presbyterian

What are the statistics?  During the Spring 2018 semester, there have been a total of 53 students - average of 35 students each week; 19 nations; 10 languages.

Who is involved?  HBC people are involved in the ministry teaching, assistant teaching, providing child care, supplying snacks, and managing some of the administrative tasks.

How can I pray?  Pray for students to come, more teachers for next year, and the ministry to grow. Pray for the students’ effective English learning and the seeds of the Gospel to be planted.  Pray for ESL volunteers as they work with students building relationships.  Pray for God to be magnified in ESL.

ESL Praise Stories:

X is an accountant from Asia.  Seeing the sign for ESL classes on the way to the temple, she stopped in for classes.  She loves classes so much that she brought a friend.  She is improving her conversational English and reading the Bible in her native language for the first time.

K is a young Christian mom from Africa.  Her heart is clearly with her family that remain in refugee camps.  Children in her family here attend schools where HBC people have a presence.  Learning English will help her communicate in a foreign country.
